The discourse communities I belong to are as follows:
First is MySpace. This is the community I am most active on, you can say. I got on to check if I have anything new to read just about everyday. I like using the networking site because I find it pretty neat how you can keep in touch with people you haven't seen in years or people who live far. Another networking site I belong to is Facebook. This site I am hardly on because I find it a bit more complicated to use, I prefer MySpace over this. Lastly, I belong to Tetrisfriends.com. When I am absolutely bored and have finshed any priorites I have to do, such as school work, I like to get on and play a couple games of tetris. lol
For the second essay I am leaning towards writing about MySpace. As far as my argument goes, I am not completely sure what it should be, but I am thinking along the line of how much MySpace has become such a big part of some people's lives or how much it has impacted the world. I am not too sure.

Maybe you could write something about how modern society forces us all apart so much physically that My Space provides a way to keep in touch. How do they make that element important, what language and symbols do they use to keep people coming back to talk to people they haven't seen in years, stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good start on wanting to write about how myspace has impacted our society so much, but maybe stating why this site has grown so much. Might can mention all the features it offers to make people so interested in using this.
ReplyDeleteHey Selene-
ReplyDeleteMySpace is a good start, but what specifically might you want to discuss about MySpace? Maybe consider a specific audience (teen girls, older users, bands, etc.). You might also want to look at a "group" on MySpace - one that has a special purpose, like supporters of a cause or fans of something. Picking a group MySpace page to analyze would be a great idea. Maybe choose one where multiple people post about a topic, person, or cause.
This will enable you to keep your focus on communication and the ways the technology helps perform and build identity and build community.
