Discourse Community:
Discourse Community is s pretty simple concept. Basically, what it is is a group of people who share an interest of certain topics. Within this certain topic they share a body of knowledge on this topic, as well as a common vocabulary. Within their group, they have set goals they tend to want to achieve, focusing on use and analysis of written communication.
Commonplace:
In simple terms, all a commonplace is, is a place of familiarity to a group (ex: discourse community) using some kind(s) of images to help represent them. Examples of these images are icons, logos, signs, pictures, etc.

I like both your definitions. I thought you got it right, and you used about 100 less words than I did, making yours easier to read, too! The description of a commonplace as a visual representation of the group is a good one.
ReplyDeleteSelen,
ReplyDeleteI liked what you had to say in your definitions. You seemed to get straight to the point which I liked. I really liked what you had to say about the commonplace, I feel yoyu are right about images being familiar, it could pretty much be anything represented by something else.
I liked your defintions. I think you got them right on point! Good job!
